BOULDER, Colo. — Brewers are taking advantage of the addition of three new styles of ale into the Brewers Association Beer Style Guidelines by making them among the most entered categories in this year’s Great American Beer Festival.
2018 marks the first time “Juicy or Hazy Pale Ale,” “Juicy or Hazy India Pale Ale” and “Juicy or Hazy Imperial or Double India Pale Ale” will be judged and awarded medals at GABF, according to the Brewers Association. The categories garnered more than 700 combined entries, including Juicy or Hazy IPA, 414; Juicy or Hazy Double IPA, 161; and Juicy or Hazy Pale Ale, 131.
As a result, for the first time since 2002, American-style India Pale Ale is not the most-entered beer style at GABF. This year’s American-style IPA category has 331 entries, down from 408 in 2017, according to BA.
This year’s GABF is set for Sept. 20-22 in Denver.
